We’ve had a lot of rain in Southern California lately. A lot. So much that we had to postpone Christine & Peter’s engagement session from over a month ago to last week. And it was seriously the best thing that could have happened. Besides showing up to one of the most gorgeous days we’ve seen in a long time, the park’s creek had risen so much because of the rain (so Malibu Creek State park actually does have a creek!).

Peter and Christine met through mutual friends seven years ago (and it’s still up for debate whether it was at The Souplantation or The Back Abbey), and they officially started dating once they got to know each other better in their small group at church. “I chased her, she gave in”, he says. “I say our first date was watching Frozen. He says it was our unintentional study date at Corner Bakery,” says Christine. When Peter proposed, it was around those closest to them, “We were on a mini family trip to Santa Barbara. Peter and I started building a sand castle with my 4 year old niece. When I dumped the first bucket of sand, there appeared the ring. My niece, being super excited, opened the box for me and he proposed. It was super cute and a very special moment.”

These two made Malibu Creek State Park look absolutely glamorous. Christine’s vintage inspired lace dress and flowy pink skirt looked like they were made to lounge on fallen logs, romp around the park, and wade in the rising creek. We had such a gorgeous day and are so excited for these two to tie the knot!

Although Diane and Robert are Southern Californians, it took going all the way to Korea to meet. “We met in Korea on a trip after high school. We were friends for about 4 years after that before we ran into each other at Busby’s and Robert confessed his ginormous crush on me.” After four years of dating, Robert popped the question, “It was our four year anniversary and I love Christmas lights so he took me to the Venice canals to look at a Christmas decorating competition. Then he took me on a canoe he had secretly rented and we went out on the water. As we went around the corner, there were a series of bridges that were decorated for Christmas. On one of them, my close friends were holding lights that said “Marry Me.” After dinner, he also surprised me with all of our friends and family at a nearby bar.”

The love Diane and Robert share is very sincere and moving. Their excitement to start their life together, the support they have for each other that was tempered by each of them losing their father, and the joy of sharing this day with their family and friends was all evident in every aspect of their day. Just like Diane and Robert, their Smoky Hollow Studios wedding was beautiful and unique. The venue had a warm yet industrial vibe, with tons of chalk board walls around. One read “Diane & Robert” and was a scene stealer at their reception. Old books, a quirky kitchen and stunning natural light made for a relaxed setting for Diane to get ready, and the perfect place for Diane and Robert to share first looks. After they saw each other for the first time, we took them outside along with their bridal party. There were black and white images peeling off the sides of huge walls that provided a very cool location for some bridal party shots! The ceremony was a cozy setting with a candlelit aisle way and a large window up front. Their reception had so many beautiful details, including a beautifully sung rendition of “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by some close friends, a seat assignment chalkboard in calligraphy, and a sweets table consisting of cheesecake, danishes, pies and wedding cake. While dancing the night away guests were also treated to super yummy treats from Portos Bakery, a coffee bar and shortly after, Diane and Robert had a sparkler exit. Congrats you two! We were beyond excited to be part of such a gorgeous day!

Jessica got ready at her mom’s house, surrounded by all of her bridesmaids, and finished up putting her dress on in the bridal room at The Estate on Second in Santa Ana. Her dress was a gorgeous, vintage inspired gown and the bridesmaids dresses, in shades of turquoise, went perfectly with it. Jay saw Jessica for the first time during their first looks in the upstairs room. Vintage furniture, red brick, white walls, beautiful lighting and an intimate setting made it a perfect place for these two to share a moment before the craziness of their wedding day began.

Their ceremony was beautiful, officiated by a good friend and in front of a very cool, gold geometric backdrop. Their cocktail hour decor had a Mexican flare, with emptied enchilada sauce cans filled will cacti, colorful cloths, mini maraca table identifiers, and a stunning orange, red and yellow “amor” sign made by the bride herself (along with all of the impressive and eye catching calligraphy)! The reception was an upscale gold and black affair personalized with guests names on white octagon tiles at each setting. Their cake table had several adorable bundt cakes, with perfect “love” themed cake toppers.

Zack proposed to Melanie after two years of dating: “It was the date of our second year anniversary. We had dinner at a sushi restaurant to celebrate. Afterwards, on a beachside stroll, he popped the question!” That proposal brings them here, to this absolutely gorgeous and intimate day at The Mountain Mermaid. Melanie got ready with her friends. With flawless hair and makeup, she dawned a stunning vintage-esque wedding dress, and wore one of the most beautiful floral crowns I’ve ever seen! Melanie and Zack shared first looks, seeing each other before all the hustle and inevitable wedding chaos took place. After spending some time with their bridal party, these two tied the knot under huge trees in front of all their friends and family. Their celebration continued throughout the day, and ended inside The Mountain Mermaid, dancing the night away with those closest to them!
